Mahwah's Environmental Commission is part of the overall Township planning process. The Commission studies and evaluates proposed uses of Township open space. This may involve Township parks and watershed, as well as evaluation of properties for conservation uses.

On a site development basis, the Commission supports the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Adjustment by reviewing applicant's plans for site specific environmental issues.

The Environmental Commission meets twice monthly on the second and fourth Wednesday, January through October and on the second Wednesday only in November and December at the Municipal Building.
