MAHWAH DAY - September 18, 2004 (Rain Date Sept. 19th)
Hours: Noon until 5 p.m.
Volunteers: Karin LaGreca, Susan Golz, John Spiech, John Brotherton
Brian Campion, Sydney Levine
Carol, Don and Jane are not available. Not sure about Paul Scian.
The purpose of having a table at Mahwah Day is to fulfill the Township’s obligation to educate the public about new state stormwater regulations.
• We will have brochures to give to residents.
• Susan Golz is providing a model of a town which demonstrates how water travels and how pollution gets into the water through storm drains.
• Susan is also looking into some coloring sheets which she may be able to bring for a coloring contest. Susan will contact Karin if she is able to do this and Karin will purchase crayons and prizes.
• Don Wenger arranged to get some products from Central Pet Supply (at 301 Island Road) to display at our table. The products are different items available for folks to clean up after their pets. Since the products do not have to be returned, Don proposed having a drawing. Susan Golz said she had tickets, which could be filled out with a name and phone number, which she will bring. She also volunteered to make some sort of sign for the drawing stating that the products were provided courtesy of Central Pet Supply of Mahwah.
A thank you note will be sent to Central Pet Supply.
If any one purchases any supplies for use at Mahwah Day, please save all receipts and you will be reimbursed.
Hydroqual Clean up at Lake Henry, October 9th
Marge Carty discussed Hydroqual’s plans for a clean up at Lake Henry on October 9th which is World Water Monitoring Day. Hydroqual is a water monitoring company. They are interested in getting Mahwah residents involved in the clean up. Last year only their employees worked on the clean up.
Water samples will be taken by Hydroqual and entered into a national data base.
A sign up sheet for participating in the clean up on October 9th will be at our table on Mahwah Day. Hydroqual will provide brochures and magnets.
Marge is arranging for the graphics department to make a large sign (poster size) saying Mahwah Environmental Commission. Hydroqual’s name will also be on the sign along with photos of water/water testing/people working at last year’s clean up.
