TOWNSHIP OF MAHWAH
October 22, 2003
The meeting of the Environmental Commission was called to order at 7:35 p.m. The Opening Statement was made. Roll call was taken.

Absent: P. Scian
The Minutes of the September 24, 2003 meeting were accepted as submitted.
The Minutes of the October 8, 2003 were corrected on page 1, site plan review, Woodcliff Lake Dev., #4 from Compaq Road to Campgaw Road. The minutes were accepted as amended.
The proposed Environmental Commission budget for 2004 is due October 31st.
Doug D’Angelo suggested the purchase of a digital camera for use during site tours. All present agreed with this idea. John Brotherton will prepare the budget.
Funds will be included in the proposed 2004 budget for nature trail signage at Continental Soldiers Park, a project which had been discussed when the park was in its planning stages.
CONTINENTAL SOLDIERS PARK
Carol Phiefer suggested a fast-growing shade tree, such as King Crimson Red Maple, be used near the playground area.
Recreation indicated several areas at the park where they would like to add landscaping.
J. DeWan will ask Drew Baumgardt for a current map of the park, and any details on a landscaping plan which may already exist.
For a holiday tree to be planted at the town hall, a spruce tree was suggested.
SITE PLAN REVIEW
Vista Bahn Estates, Dkt. 461
Commission members reviewed the revised plan. Comments to the Planning Board indicated that the plan is not approved and that the Environmental Commission stands by its remarks from the August 27th meeting.
A letter was written to DEP on Vista Bahn Estates.

Dear Mr. Godfrey:
We do object to the driveway crossing the wetlands on proposed Lot #3. There would be severe impact on the wetlands and it would seriously interrupt the normal flow of water.”
The following applications were approved:

JP’s Pizzeria, 1025 Macarthur Blvd.
SOIL MOVEMENT PERMIT APPLICATION
Memo to Administrative Officer:
“The Environmental Commission reviewed and approved the following application:
Robert Pineault, 1 N. Glasgow Terrace, Bl. 132, Lot 18, E-BD-216-1443A, amended 10/15/03. We note that there will be six replacement trees.”
Discussed the Council’s Resolution supporting the preservation of Mahrapo Farm.
Susan Golz stated she has GIS information on Mahrapo Farm.
Reviewed various correspondence on conferences, DEP bulletin, minutes and agendas.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
The next meeting of the Environmental Commission will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at 7:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building, 475 Corporate Drive, Mahwah, N.J.
