The mission of the Mahwah Township Recreation Department is to coordinate the recreational activities within the township. In cooperation with the Recreation Committee, the Mahwah Youth Sports Boosters, the Mahwah Board of Education, and the Mahwah Department of Public Works, the Recreation Department oversees the efficient and safe use of public areas that are maintained for purpose of community events; youth, high school, and adult sports; passive recreation; picnic areas; playgrounds; and walking paths.
The Recreation Director develops the schedule for recreational and sporting events on township owned fields. The priority use of fields is scheduled by the Recreation Director. Click here for copy of Recreation Department Handbook.

The Recreation Director does not organize youth sports teams. The Township of Mahwah Youth Sports Boosters handles registration, team/coach assignments and game/practice schedules. The web address for The Township of Mahwah Youth Sports Boosters is: www.tmysb.org.

Adult Coed Volleyball:
Mahwah Recreation is sponsoring a coed volleyball league, open to Mahwah residents only. Please note that this is a recreational league. Games will be played on Wednesday evenings, beginning September 9, 2015 and ending June 8, 2016 at Joyce Kilmer School. Games are played in the New Gym from 7-9 p.m. If school is closed for any reason the game is cancelled. There will be no play on the following dates: 9/16, 9/23, 11/4, 12/23, 12/30, 4/6/16. Mahwah Men’s Basketball – Continues with new format!
If you’re looking for a fun night playing basketball with friends or a competitive game to get your energy out, we have an opportunity for you. Starting immediately, we will be changing the format of our adult basketball program. Players will be divided into two age groups: The more competitive 21-34 group and the “let’s get some exercise and have fun” 35 and up group. Pick-up games will be played on Wednesday evenings through June 8, 2016 at Ramapo Ridge School gym from 7:30-9:30 pm. If school is closed for any reason the game is cancelled. There will be no play on the following dates: 4/6/16, 6/8/16. Mahwah Residents Only. The program is free, drop-ins are welcome. Adult Spring Bocce League: PLEASE NOTE: NOW PLAYING ON SATURDAYS AT 11:00 AM.
Mahwah Recreation will be sponsoring a Bocce League open to Mahwah residents only. Matches will be played at Continental Soldier’s Park on Saturdays at 11 a.m. Play will begin on Saturday, May 21 and end on June 18th. Mahwah Men's Residential Softball League: Mahwah Recreation is sponsoring a men’s softball league open to Mahwah residents only. Games will begin June 20th and continue through mid August, 2016. All participants must be 21 years of age on or before June 20, 2016. Games will be played on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:45 PM or 8:30 PM at both Continental Soldiers and Commodore Perry fields. First time participants must register in person at the Recreation Building, 70 East Ramapo Avenue, on Thursday, May 5th or Wednesday May 25th from 6:00-7:30 PM. Click here for registration form. Mahwah Women's Softball: Mahwah Recreation is sponsoring a woman’s softball league this summer. We now accept players from surrounding Bergen County towns in order to provide our residents with a bigger, better program. Games will begin June 21st and continue through mid August, 2016. All participants must be 21 years of age on or before June 21, 2016. Games will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 PM at both Continental Soldiers and Commodore Perry fields. First time participants must register in person at the Recreation Building, 70 East Ramapo Avenue, on Thursday, May 5th or Wednesday May 25th from

Mahwah Coed Adult Soccer League: The Mahwah Recreation Committee is sponsoring a 7 V 7 Coed Adult Soccer league, open to Mahwah residents only. Games will begin June 7th and continue through mid August 2016. Games will be played at Continental Soldier's Field and/or Mahwah HS on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Start times will be between 8:00 – 10:00 PM. All participants must be 18 years of age or older before June 7, 2016. All first time players must register in person and show proof of residency (Copy of Driver License is preferred). The in-person registration will be held at the Recreation Building, 70 East Ramapo Avenue, on Thursday May 19, 2016 from 7:30-9:30 PM. Proof of residency and fee of $40, payable to Mahwah Rec. Soccer must be received at time of registration. Prior years’ players can mail the signed form with payment to the Recreation office.

Mahwah Adult Tennis Clinic: Mahwah Recreation is sponsoring a tennis clinic, open to Mahwah residents only. The clinic will run on Mondays from June 20th through August 1st at the Mahwah High School tennis courts. The fee of $85.00 is payable to Mahwah Rec. Tennis and must be received by June 1st. All participants must be 21 years of age on or before June 20, 2016. The Clinics will be at 6pm and 7pm. For the duration of the clinic, the Mahwah High School Courts will be available on Wednesdays from 6-8pm to those registered in the clinic. In-person registration at the Recreation Building, 70 East Ramapo Avenue, will be held on Thursday, May 5th and Thursday, May 19th from 6:00-7:30 pm. Proof of residency is required. If you are interested in becoming a coach or assistant coach for the youth program, you must take the Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y class and go through a background check prior to the season starting.

Recreation Department Events: 2016
The Mahwah Recreation Committee will host Paddle Day on Thursday, July 7th from 5:30- 7:30 p.m. Raindate: Thursday, July 14th. Paddle Day will be held on Lake Henry, located in the rear of Continental Soldier’s Park. Canoes, kayaks and life jackets will be provided by Ramsey Outdoor Stores for the use of Mahwah residents of all ages. Proof of residency will be required for participation in this event.
The Recreation Committee will, once again, be hosting their annual Senior Picnic at Continental Soldier’s Park on Tuesday, July 12th. This event is open to all senior township residents at no charge. Join us for some good food and fun!
Please join us on Tuesday, July 26th for a "Movie Under The Stars". Movie Night will take place at Commodore Perry Field at 8:30 pm. All you need to bring is a lawn chair or blanket. The snack bar will be open to purchase refreshments. Raindate: 7/27/16.
The 22nd annual Mahwah Day celebration is scheduled for Saturday, September 24th at Commodore Perry Field. A parade, starting at 12:00 kicks off the event. Perennial favorites include the dog show, magician, kiddie and pony rides. There will be live music from 6-8pm followed by a spectacular fireworks display at dusk. Halloween Costume Parade
The annual Halloween Costume Parade, sponsored by the Recreation Committee, will be held rain or shine at 5pm on October 31, 2016 at the Mahwah Municipal Building. Children in costume will be judged by age group, prizes will be awarded and free refreshments will be available. The Mahwah High School volunteer club, helps with everything from decorating the field to leading ghosts, goblins around the field. Secor Farms lends a hand as well by providing hay bales and pumpkins for decorating the field.
Veterans Day Service
Please join us on November 11th at 11am for the annual Township of Mahwah Veteran’s Day Service. Let’s show our veterans how much we appreciate their service and sacrifice to our country by joining them on this special day. The service is held at Veterans Memorial Park, located on Franklin Turnpike between Miller Road and East Ramapo Ave. This event is sponsored by the Mahwah Veterans of Foreign Wars Post#7124 and the Mahwah Recreation Department. We would like to thank the Mahwah Boy and Girl Scouts, the students of Betsy Ross School, Mahwah High School and St. Paul’s School for their continued participation in this event. We look forward to seeing you again this year.
Holiday Tree Lighting
The Township of Mahwah will hold its Annual Holiday Tree Lighting on Sunday December 4, 2016 at 4:30 pm at Municipal Hall on Corporate Drive. Santa Claus has made special arrangements to fly in to Mahwah for the occasion. Since we can’t count on having snow for his sleigh, the Mahwah volunteer firefighters have generously offered to escort Santa on their fire trucks! Santa will hear all requests for holiday gifts for kids of all ages. All persons of good cheer are welcome to join us to hear seasonal favorites sung by the Joyce Kilmer School choir, enjoy delicious refreshments and share the kindred spirit of good neighbors. And of course, see the beauty and feel the magic as our tree and our hearts are lighted.
