The Mahwah Department of Public Works (DPW) includes the division of Streets and Roads; Buildings and Grounds; Recreation; Recycling; and Water and Sewer Utilities. Under the direction of the Road Foreman, the Division of Streets and Roads works throughout the year on a variety of duties, which include general maintenance, repairs, street sweeping, sanding, and snowplowing.
The Buildings and Grounds Division maintains the interior and exterior of all Township properties including the Municipal Building and Senior Center, five firehouses and two Ambulance facilities and setting up polling places for elections. Parks and Playgrounds maintains all Township recreation areas by mowing grass, lining all playing fields and preparing for special events such as Memorial Day, Mahwah Day, the annual Fishing Contest, Baseball and Football Tournaments and maintenance of the Township Pool and Hockey facility. The Recycling Division collects all recyclables on a regular weekly schedule. Items picked up are newspapers, magazines and cardboard, commingled glass, tin and aluminum cans, plastic containers with Codes 1-7 and plastic food and beverage containers. The Water and Sewer Utilities maintain the municipal water system by checking water wells daily and by keeping the water and sewer systems in good repair.
