PUBLIC MEETING MINUTES
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2006
The Meeting was called to order at 8:01PM by Council President Kelly who read the Open Public Meetings Act as prescribed by law. Notice was advertised in The Record on July 29, 2005 stating this meeting would be held in the Municipal Offices, 475 Corporate Drive, Mahwah, New Jersey on Thursday, February 23, 2006 at 8:00PM.
Notice of this meeting is posted on the Municipal Bulletin Board. The minutes of this meeting shall be available in the Municipal Clerk’s Office.
Salute to the Flag
Present: Councilmembers Alderisio, Calandrillo, DiGiulio, Kelly, Paton and Roth.
Absent: Councilmember Richter
Also present were Mayor Richard J. Martel, Business Administrator Brian Campion, Township Attorney’s Associate Nilufer DeScherer and Municipal Clerk Kathrine Coletta
APPROVAL OF BILLS AND CLAIMS
On a motion by Calandrillo, seconded by Roth, the Bills and Claims, previously signed totaling $1,377,091.36, were approved. Roll call vote: Alderisio, yes; Calandrillo, yes; DiGiulio, yes; Paton, yes; Richter, absent; Roth, yes; Kelly, yes. A list of Bills and Claims is on file in the Municipal Clerk’s Office.
REPORTS OF TOWNSHIP COUNCIL and MUNICIPAL CLERK
DiGiulio reported the Beautification SubCommittee has changed the Clean Up Month to May.
TOWNSHIP COUNCIL: COMMENTS, COMMUNICATIONS and REPORTS OF SUBCOMMITTEES
Paton recently attended a Jersey Access Group Meeting. Covered were the status of Verizon. Everything has been removed from the State. Majority of the hearings will be held at the FCC. JAG is active in the present positions for the State.
Roth referred to a discussion at the last Work Session Meeting concerning the Freeholder’s Committee Meeting. He requested a letter be sent to the Freeholder Committee Chairperson. The Township Attorney’s Associate answered the letter has been sent. She spoke to the County Administrator and his Assistant. The County will be holding a meeting on March 8, 2006 to share this information.
REPORTS OF MAYOR and BUSINESS ADMINISTRATOR
Mayor Martel read the Proclamation entitled Read Across America – NJ.
On a motion by DiGiulio, seconded by Calandrillo, the meeting was opened to the public at 8:13PM. All in favor. Motion carried.
Being no comments were made from the public, on a motion by DiGiulio, seconded by Roth, the meeting was closed to the public at 8:14PM. All in favor. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE – INTRODUCTION
The title of an Ordinance was read as follows:
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING ACQUISITION OF CERTAIN ROAD WIDENING EASEMENTS ON HILLTOP ROAD AND AIRMONT AVENUE COVERING LOTS 149, 150 AND 151 IN BLOCK 115; AND LOTS 122 AND 123 IN BLOCK 126.
RESOLUTION – ORDINANCE NO. 1535
Introduced by Calandrillo, seconded by Roth.
RESOLVED that the Ordinance be passed and adopted on first reading.
FURTHER RESOLVED that said Ordinance be considered for final passage at a meeting to be held on March 9, 2006 at the Municipal Offices, 475 Corporate Drive, Mahwah, New Jersey at 8:00PM.
FURTHER RESOLVED that the Municipal Clerk shall publish said Ordinance with notice of introduction, passage and time and place where said Ordinance will be considered for final passage.
Roll call vote: Alderisio, yes; Calandrillo, yes; DiGiulio, yes; Paton, yes; Richter, absent; Roth, yes; Kelly, yes.
Resolutions #038-06 through #041-06, #043-06 and the Raffle Application for the Beth Haverim were voted on under the Consent Agenda.
Resolution #042-06 was carried to the March 2, 2006 Council Meeting.
On a motion by Calandrillo, seconded by DiGiulio, the meeting was adjourned at 8:23PM. All in favor. Motion carried.
