The meeting of the Environmental Commission was called to order at 7:35 p.m. by John Brotherton, Chairman. The Opening Statement was made. Roll call was taken.
Present: J. Brotherton
J. DeWan (secretary)
There is one vacant position on the Commission. The Mayor is expected to appoint a new member on February 9, 2006.
The Minutes of the meeting held on January 25, 2006 were approved as submitted.
LAKE HENRY TRAIL PROJECT
We received two samples of the orientation map from Maja Britton. These were reviewed by all present. Sample #1 was preferred over Sample #2. Several changes were suggested. Karin LaGreca will pass this information on to Maja. The changes had to do with deleting certain flowers, birds, cattails and adding grasses and trees. The overall design of the orientation map was well received. Another change had to do with the acknowledgement of funding which should be changed to: “The Lake Henry Trail has been developed, in part, by a grant from the NJ DEP Environmental Services Program and funding from the Township of Mahwah Environmental Commission.”
John Spiech will measure the length of the trail, which needs to be included on the sign.
Don Wenger will go to the proposed location and put a stake in the ground, so members can go by and see the location. The sign is to be located close to the parking lot, so that it is visible from the tot lot and parking area.
Members of Recreation and DPW will be at our meeting on February 22 to discuss the Lake Henry Trail.
We received a letter from the Highlands Council on the Tirri property on Crest Road.
Robert Mooney, a member of Mahwah Boy Scout Troop 50, contacted us by email looking for an Eagle Scout project. J. DeWan emailed him back asking for his telephone number and what he is interested in doing. Commission members suggested possible projects: install signs, clean up of Lake Henry area.
We received various agendas and minutes from Planning, Zoning and Council.
John Brotherton reported he had a phone call from Mrs. Martino of 172 Deerhaven Road concerning replacement trees. Township Engineer has stipulated there should be twenty replacement trees. The Environmental Commission agrees.
Approved a tenant application, change of ownership, for V & S Cleaners, 425B Forest Road.
