MEETING MINUTES DECEMBER 18, 2002
The meeting was called to order at 7:32 PM by chairman Drew Baumgardt. Members in
attendance were Westa Hannafin, Jean Lascar, Julia Smith and Monica Ullrich. The flag salute
was followed by the Sunshine Law announcement.
On a motion by Jean Lascar, seconded by julia Smith, the meeting minutes of November 20,
2002 and October 23, 2002 were approved. All in favor, motion carried.
Tree Lighting had a good attendance, but no one from the Volunteer Club showed up to help.
Irene Lahr's chorus was wonderful, as usual. Drew has mentioned to BA, M/C our
recommendation that next year we use the new senior center - there's plenty of parking, stage
for chorus, kitchen for cocoa preparation. Any lights used now on the Co#1 tree can stay, and
any decorations we use at the senior center can remain for the season.
Our next special event is Meet the Bunny at Winter Park.
Continental Soldiers Park target date for opening the entire facility is 3.1.03. Gates except
front have been installed and can be locked; cages by sport are installed. Skate park
equipment needs to be installed. Electric work needs to be completed in building and outside.
Two bathrooms need sheetrock and ceilings, kitchen needs work. Spackling and painting can
not be done until heat is working. Bleachers have been installed, both football and soccer are
handicap accessible. Playground equipment installed except infant swings, which were the
wrong style. Mulch path completed as far as it can go. Shrubbery will be planted in the
spring. Halifax residents want 400' of 3' berm with an 8' fence atop it. Administration has
asked the engineers for price quotes. The field can barely be seen now without leaves, and if
the residents want a fence it should be on their property and at their expense. We feel that to
set a precedent here would be a mistake.
We want to use CSP for practices and games, we do not want to have everything there. As
presented to Council, schedule is to give everyone a chance on the new field, and some
practices and games will remain where they have been . Every town-sponsored group should
have a chance at the new field. Meet the Bunny could work there, with the gazebo and stand;
sports parade is a possibility if participants are limited. Field use schedule should have a
mission statement, per Ward.
Ward spoke to John DaPuzzo about Airmont, who feels we can sell the house and have $400K,
not be landlord, add it to the tax rolls, and if we forgo lights, can bond for $650K less.
Commodore Perry field needs to be repaired. The step from the parking lot is a killer, picnic
area should be top-soiled. Bring your list to the January meeting - we will tweak any events we
do now, discuss adding anything new.
We can get undated $5 certificates from the pet store as prizes, and approach them earlier
next year to donate half the cost for Mahwah Day dog show.
Township is giving flu shots, call the BOH.
Drew and Todd attended the BHP meeting in Ft.Lee this month. Drew requested to host the
June 2003 meeting at CSP.
2003 Rec budget remains the same as last year. Presentation date to Council not yet
determined. Aluminum handicap-accessible picnic tables have been ordered.
On a motion by Jean Lascar, seconded by Julia Smith, the meeting was adjourned at 8:15 PM.
All in favor, motion carried. The next meeting is scheduled for January 22, 2003 at 7:30 PM.
