TOWNSHIP OF MAHWAH
HOUSING COMMISSION MEETING
Tuesday, May 21, 2002
Chairman, Dr. Bernard F. Ross, who read the Open Public Meetings Act Statement prescribed by law, called the meeting to order at 8:00 P.M. Notice of the meeting was published in the Ridgewood News on May 24, 2001, posted in the Township Hall and filed in the Township Clerk’s Office.
Minutes of the meeting are available from the Township Clerk, the Secretary of the Housing Commission and the Municipal Web Site upon adoption by the Commission.

Ross congratulated Snyder on her election to Pres. Of the Board of Education and John Kelly for his election to the Township Council.
Present: Calandrillo, Plicinski, Raiz, Ross and Snyder.
Absent: Brotherton, Martel.
Plicinski made the motion to approve the minutes of the April 16, 2002 Housing Commission meeting. Calandrillo seconded. Motion passed.
Calandrillo moved to open the Public Portion of the meeting. Seconded by Plicinski. Motion passed.
The public did not wish to address the Commission. Calandrillo moved to close the Public Portion. Snyder seconded.
Correspondence was reviewed.
Housing Manger’s Reports
Report A- Units available for sale/rent. Three units for rent, two of which have individuals interested. No units are available for sale at the present time. There are six units with sales pending.
Report B- Violations-735 Pepperidge Court-scheduled for Municipal Court appearance May 23, 2002 at 1:30 P.M. 2124 Hawthorne Lane rescheduled for Municipal Court appearance June 4, 2002 at 7:00 P.M.
Report C- Pending Foreclosures-2056 Charles Court- was scheduled for Sheriff’s Sale May 17, 2002. Reed will check with the Sheriff’s Dept.
Report D- Current Foreclosures-Atty. Tamayne will file a Motion in Bergen County Superior Court for recovery of excess funds realized at the Sheriff’s Sale. Raiz reported Tamayne is working on language to be inserted into Deeds, making the Mortgage Companies aware the Township must be notified of any Affordable Housing units going into foreclosure. A mass mailing will be done by the Housing Dept. to all Mortgage Companies once Tamayne completes the legal wording.
Report E- Affordable Housing Trust Fund-Account balance $439,805.13.
a. Norfolk Village-2002 Rental Increase – Raiz spoke to Ken Dyer who recently completed a market study on the property and has made a recommendation to K. Hovnanian administration. A decision should be received by the end of May. Dyer will notify the Affordable Housing Dept. when this occurs and a meeting may be scheduled with Township officials.
The C.O.A.H. status report of Municipalities addressing their affordable housing obligations from 1987 – 1999 was reviewed.
Calandrillo asked if anyone has contacted Susan Bass Levin, the new State Commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs. Raiz reported not as of yet.
Being no further business Plicinski made the motion for adjournment at 8:20 P.M. Calandrillo made the second. Motion approved. The next scheduled Housing Commission meeting is Tuesday, June 18, 2002.
