TOWNSHIP OF MAHWAH
REORGANIZATION MEETING MINUTES
THURSDAY, JULY 6, 2006

The meeting was called to order at 8:00PM by Council President Kelly who read the Open Public Meetings Act Statement as prescribed by law. Notice was advertised in The Record on stating this meeting would be held in the Municipal Offices, 475 Corporate Drive, Mahwah, New Jersey on Thursday, July 6, 2006 at 8:00PM.

Notice of this meeting is posted on the Municipal Bulletin Board. The minutes of this meeting shall be available in the Municipal Clerk’s Office.

Salute to the Flag

Present: Councilmembers Alderisio, DiGiulio, Kelly, Paton, Richter and Roth
Absent: Councilmember Calandrillo

Also present were Mayor Richard J. Martel, Business Administrator Brian Campion, Township Attorney Terry Paul Bottinelli and Municipal Clerk Kathrine G. Coletta.


MUNICIPAL CLERK=S CERTIFICATION OF RESULTS OF MUNICIPAL ELECTION, MAY 9, 2006
The Municipal Clerk read the Certification of the Results of the May 9, 2006 Municipal Election, attached to and made part of these Meeting Minutes.

OATH OF COUNCIL MEMBER JOHN DaPUZZO
OATH OF COUNCIL MEMBER ROBERT G. HERMANSEN
OATH OF COUNCIL MEMBER ALLAN R. KIDD
OATH OF COUNCIL MEMBER ROY B. LARSON
Judge Gianni swore each of the new Councilmembers into office.

Present: Councilman Alderisio, DaPuzzo, DiGiulio, Hermansen, Kidd, Larson and Roth.

RESOLUTIONS
Resolutions #001-06A through #030-06A were voted on separately and are attached to and made part of these Meeting Minutes.

PUBLIC PORTION
On a motion by Roth, seconded by Hermansen, the meeting was opened to the public at 9:10PM. All in favor. Motion carried.

Ms. Gloria Edlin stated with the new Council seated Nilsen Avenue residents are asking for justice.

Mrs. Stephanie Derrig of 144 Miller Road asked Council to tighten the salary ranges of the municipal jobs.

Mrs. Eileen Richter of 99 Frost Lane congratulated the new Council and wish them a good term.


Mrs. Richter went on further to say she feels there is a conflict of interest with Councilman Larson being the Liaison to the Board of Education and his wife being a member of the Board of Education. She feels there are 6 other qualified Councilmembers who could filled the opening.

Mr. Gary Paton of 83 Fisher Road wished the new Council a great term.

Mr. Paton expressed concern over the appointment of the Board of Education Liaison. Mr. Paton asked Council to reconsider the appointment as there would be two related people on 2 boards within the Township.

Larson stated he feels it is in the best interest of the Township for him to decline the appointment of Board of Education Liaison.

Roth made a motion, seconded by Alderisio, to appointment Councilmember Robert Hermansen as Council Liaison to the Board of Education until June 30, 2007. All in favor. Motion carried. Resolution shall be attached to and made part of these Meeting Minutes.


Mr. Ken DeFerrari of 69 Maysenger Road thanked the Mayor and past Council for the support given to the Veterans in the past years.

Mr. DeFerrari hopes the new Council will expedite solving the water problems on his area as the problem is getting worse.

Mr. Ward Donigian of 172 Stephens Lane applauded the new Council. Mr. Donigian hopes the new Council moves forward on many issues. Mr. Donigian applauded Hermansen for donating his salary to the Recreation Committee and the Senior Center.

On a motion by Roth, seconded by Larson, the meeting was closed to the public. All in favor. Motion carried.

COUNCIL COMMENTS
Alderisio thanked the Councilmembers who are leaving for serving. And he welcomes the new Councilmembers.

Hermansen looks forward to the next 4 years.

DaPuzzo thanked everyone for attending the Meeting this evening.

Kidd is happy to see the public at the meeting this evening. He hopes Council keeps focused that the two highest vote getters in the last Election are the ones who spoke our against higher taxes. He feels everyone needs to be held accountable to the Taxpayers.

Roth welcomed all the new Councilmembers. He looks forward to working with them. He is confident and hopeful this will be a productive year for Mahwah.

Larson thanked everyone for attending the meeting. He is looking forward to 4 productive years.



DiGiulio stated any Councilmember who has an item to be placed on the Agenda is to contact the Municipal Clerk or herself.

DiGiulio informed the public that Councilmembers telephone numbers are in the telephone book for residents to contact them.

On a motion by DaPuzzo, seconded by Hermansen, the meeting was adjourned at 9:30PM. All in favor. Motion carried.
